Real staff stories...

I first joined the company in the subscriptions department where I would deal with magazine customers over the telephone and via our support desk. Before joining the company, I worked as a freelance photographer and so when we opened our new office in Dinton I offered to take some photos of the event. The photos went down well and from then onwards I was promoted to a full-time photography role for the group. When I’m not snapping away, I spend my time kayaking and am often found on Dartmoor or in South Wales.

Jo is the editor of HR magazine and is based in our London office. Jo moved down to London from The North after graduating with First-Class Honours from Sheffield University, where she started a career on the graduate scheme at Mark Allen. When not writing about the world of work and its many complexities, Jo likes to spend time training her unruly dog Nora. She also loves a good book, yoga, baking, cycling and a good meme.

Lucy is the HR Manager for the group and is based at the Herne Hill office and visits the Dartford, Guildford, Sutton and Dinton offices regularly. Originally from Zimbabwe and having spent most of her life in the UK, Lucy started her career in HR almost 10 years ago. She has always balanced studying, career and family life. While not at work, Lucy enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. Her hobbies include costume styling for music videos and photoshoots and natural skincare production. Lucy completed her CIPD Level 5 in 2016 and is currently working towards completing the CIPD level 7 by 2022.

Andrew is the editor of Farmers Weekly – one of the most recent titles to join Mark Allen. Until the coronavirus outbreak Andrew worked at Quadrant House in Sutton but now spends his days working on the magazine from home. Farmers Weekly either hires journalists and teaches them about farming, or farmers and teaches them how to write – Andrew is one of the latter. He was brought up on a cattle and sheep farm in mid Wales and studied Agriculture at Aberystwyth University. Andrew joined the magazine in 2016 as arable reporter and progressed to deputy business editor in 2018, before becoming editor in 2021.
