We know the secret to our success isn’t our award-winning brands, our sell-out events or the specialist content we provide - it’s our PEOPLE.
We don’t believe your background, race, age or gender should have an impact on your ability to do your job, and neither should you.
Our people are motivated and inspired by the work they do and are safe in the knowledge new experiences are just around the corner.
In fact... we'll let them speak for themselves...
I have received such a warm welcome and have been very well supported by my colleagues at MA Business, and the wider Mark Allen Group, despite the strangeness of being recruited in a pandemic, and working remotely. I look forward to a long and successful career within the company
Jo is the editor of HR magazine and is based in our London office. Jo moved down to London from The North after graduating with First-Class Honours from Sheffield University, where she started a career on the graduate scheme at Mark Allen. When not writing about the world of work and its many complexities, Jo likes to spend time training her unruly dog Nora. She also loves a good book, yoga, baking, cycling and a good meme.
My job is to get content to the end-user. I come up with crazy ideas and execute them via traditional and digital marketing activities. I am continually monitoring data, trends, and the industry so that we can improve our customer experience and provide our users with the latest and most relevant content. I work with a lot of people at Mark Allen, and what makes the company feel like home is that everybody I interact with is awesome, approachable and an expert in their field. The lengths my colleagues will go to to help me progress has allowed me to develop my skills as a marketer but has also given me insight and understanding of the wider business. Behind my calm and collected façade is a multi-coloured eleven-page to-do list that sometimes I do not even understand. I break this down and plan incrementally, so I feel accomplished every day.
I graduated from York University in 1994 and have a BA Honours degree in Politics and Economics. I have worked in the media and events industry for 26 years and have held a number of senior publishing and event roles in companies such as Incisive media (formerly VNU publications), Wilmington publishing, Trinity Mirror and Informa before joining Findlay and Mark Allen in 2014. I have also served as a College and School Governor and have also stood for parliament on two occasions in 1997 and 2001. I joined Findlay Media in January 2014 as a sales manager on New Electronics and the Engineering Design Show. In May 2016 I was promoted to the position of sales director of GHI Magazine and the GHI Conferences and then in October 2018 was promoted to the position of publisher of a group of aviation titles including GHI, REN and ALI which I launched in 2018. This also now includes the Built Environment Group.
It’s been a busy and fruitful few months since I joined the MAX team. I am grateful for the great support and encouragement from my colleagues and manager. While bookings for BAPCO and CCW are ongoing, we have also run a successful online event, restarted our publication offerings and launched a brand-new end-user focused conference series. The critical communications portfolio we have holds a very strong position in the market and our team is dedicated to delivering value to our visitors, exhibitors and sponsors. I have been really enjoying the conversations with my clients and can’t wait to meet them all in person at BAPCO in October
I’ve had a great start to my role at Mark Allen Group. Starting a new role virtually with a supportive team and an abundance of guidance from those around me has helped me settle very comfortably. My work background is in events, in this new role I’ve had to opportunity to learn from those around me from administration to management which has been a major positive for me that I get to work with everyone involved in the event. The opportunity to have those 1-on-1 meetings with the people I can learn from the most is a very positive start to my opening chapter at Mark Allen Group. I look forward to being part of the organisation for many years to come
Andrew is the editor of Farmers Weekly – one of the most recent titles to join Mark Allen. Until the coronavirus outbreak Andrew worked at Quadrant House in Sutton but now spends his days working on the magazine from home. Farmers Weekly either hires journalists and teaches them about farming, or farmers and teaches them how to write – Andrew is one of the latter. He was brought up on a cattle and sheep farm in mid Wales and studied Agriculture at Aberystwyth University. Andrew joined the magazine in 2016 as arable reporter and progressed to deputy business editor in 2018, before becoming editor in 2021.
My first few months at Mark Allen Group have been very successful and this is largely thanks to the support of my new team. Despite the challenges of starting a new role remotely, the support from my colleagues has ensured we’ve been able to make a great start in launching Electric & Hybrid Rail Technology and I cannot wait to publish the first issue in July. It’s exciting to be part of such an ambitious company who are not just content with strengthening its existing portfolio but also looking to introduce new media platforms connecting specialist audiences within dynamic industries
